To this end the moon was isolated within an orbital containment field and a lab established on the ocean surface. Part of the modification was to fit the Jikaru with a neural dampener. A special headset that could be used to target the Jikaru and cause it to attack. [7]

Without knowledge of these issues, the first modified Jikaru was to be transferred to Lutani VII by the USS Enterprise in 2261. The transport ran into difficulties when the neural dampener was damaged, causing it to attack the scientists working on the project. [7]
