Rocket boots were a 23rd century invention that allowed Starfleet personnel to maintain a fixed position at altitude for a sustained period of time. This allowed for inspection of areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach. The boots has a weight limit of approximately 240Kg. [1]

They are able to support a person in either an upright or horizontal orientation. They also have a built in emergency booster system that allows for rapid acceleration for use in emergency situations. This booster can also be used to temporarily overcome the systems inherent weight limits. [1]
