Commander Christine Vale

TimelineQuotes
Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Commander Christine Vale [1]
Species : Humans

Early Life

A Human female, Vale was born on Izar. Her family had a long tradition of serving in the Izarian Peace Office, and when Vale chose to leave to join Starfleet her mother reacted harshly, accusing her of spitting on her heritage. [2]

In her fourth year at the Academy Vale participated in a regular poker game, a tradition she would carry on aboard the USS O'Keefe. [3]

Career

After graduation she was posted to the USS Al-Batani for her first cruise. [4] She transferred from there to the USS O'Keefe, where she was promoted to Lieutenant JG and assigned to serve in security under Commander Ma. She carried out blood screenings on the ship, and was almost killed when she found that an Aquan crewmember named Lenmar had been replaced by a Changeling infiltrator. [5]

Vale transferred to the Enterprise-E in 2375, where she continued to serve in security. She was promoted to the Chief of Security in 2376 after the end of the Dominion war. [3]

In 2379 she commanded the mission to infiltrate the nadion-pulse cannon base in the Nokalana Sea on Tezwa. [6] Later on in that year she was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, and was offered the position of first officer of the USS Titan. Although she declined the post when Ambassador Worf returned to Starfleet [3], when Worf decided to remain with the Enterprise-E following the death of Lieutenant Commander Data the position was offered to Vale again, and she accepted. [1]

Vale was initially concerned that Captain Riker's marriage to the Titan's Counsellor, Commander Troi, would make the chain of command on the ship unmanegable. Riker convinced her that he needed Vale as a "voice of reason", should his relationship with his wife cloud his command judgment. [1]

During the final Borg invasion of the Federation Vale found her worst fears coming true when Troi was found to be in danger of miscarrying her second pregnancy. Despite this Troi refused to abort the pregnancy, and this became a source of great strain between her and Captain Riker. Vale warned him that his judgment was becoming impaired. When the Titan stumbled upon a planet hidden from sensor view Troi accompanied Vale on the away mission, along with Doctor Ree. They were surprised to find that the planet was New Erigol, a Caeliar world and home to former Columbia commanding officer Erika Hernandez. [7]

Vale came to distrust Hernandez during their stay with the Caeliar, and to distrust Troi's judgment when she suggested that Hernandez could be trusted. Vale and Tuvok attemped escape from the Caeliar city, but were unsuccessful. [8]

Relationships

Whilst on the Titan, Vale became attracted to Jaza Najem, Science Officer on the ship. The two had a brief romance [9], though Vale cooled things off again after a few weeks. [10] During the Titan's encounter with the planet Orisha Vale began to renew her interest in Jaza, but he sacrificed himself on the mission in order to protect the Titan and its crew. [2]

Hobbies / Interests

A personal quirk of Vale was her habit of frequently changing her hair colour and style. During the Titan's mission to study spacegoing life forms, she dyed her hair black - however, the dye she used made her hair appear luminous pink to crewmembers who could see in the UV range, which prompted frequent bouts of laughter as she moved through the ship. Vale went to the trouble of having a special dye formulated that made her hair appear black to every different species in the crew. Later she would dye her hair red, although she regretted that she made it so red that it looked like the colour of her uniform. [2]
