The first captain of the USS Enterprise-B, harriman was an inexperienced officer who lacked self confidence. When the ship was involved in a crisis situation on her maiden voyage he attempted to hand control over to Kirk, who was visiting the ship at the time. Kirk convinced Harriman to face up to his responsibilities and remain in command for the crisis. [1]
