A Trill, Verad spent his whole life training to become joined but was found to be unsuitable by the Trill Symbiosis Commission. Devastated by this rejection, he plotted to steal the Dax symbiont from Jadzia. He made the attempt in 2370 and was briefly successful in implanting the symbiont within himself, becoming the ninth host. Verad was captured shortly before he could escape Deep Space Nine, and the symbiont returned to Jadzia. [1]
