Plotline
Discovery encounters a subspace rift created by the DMA, and enters it to investigate. Finding a void inside they are unable to navigate their way back out. A DOT robot leaves the ship to investigate and disintegrates when it reaches its boundary.
Book and Stamets attempt to use the spore drive to jump out of the rift, however, Book begins having hallucinations of his deceased father causing the jumps to fail. Stamets realizes that the hallucinations have been caused by interaction with particles within the rift, which match those found in the galactic barrier.
The ship's advanced computer, Zora, attempts to carry out her usual duties while helping to find a way out of the rift and unusually finds herself becoming overwhelmed by the task. Gray offers to help Zora clear her thought processes by playing a game together. After playing for a while, Zora is able to detect micro-variances on the external sensors which they can use to lead them out of the void.
To protect the crew from the effect of the void, Burnham beams them into the transporters "pattern buffer", remaining outside to fly the ship with Zora's help. Burnham wakes up in sickbay to learn that they have successfully exited the rift.
