Maltz

NotesImages
TimelineQuotes
Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Maltz [1]
Species : Klingons

A member of Commander Kruge's crew, Maltz was the only crewmember apart from Krug himself to survive the destruction of the USS Enterprise, both having remained aboard their own Bird of Prey. Maltz remained on the ship when Krug beamed down to the Genesis planet to confront Kirk, then beamed the rest of the Enterprise personnel up at Krug's order. [1]

When Kirk defeated and killed Krug in unarmed combat, he impersonated Krug's voice and ordered Maltz to beam him up. Maltz was then caught by surprise when Kirk entered the bridge with a disruptor, capturing him. When Kirk threatened to kill Maltz to force his help in offering the ship, Maltz declared that he did not deserve to live. Kirk declined to kill him, confining him aboard. [1] Maltz later committed suicide. [2]

1 Star Trek III : The Search for Spock
2 Novelization of Star Trek III : The Search For Spock The Genesis Wave books state that Maltz survived and went on to various adventures in which he regained his honour. I prefer the suicide idea myself, but both are equally valid.
