Plotline

A new signal appears over the planet Boreth, which is sacred to the Klingons. It is home to a monastry where Klingon monks guard time crystals. This is the location that Tyler and L'Rell left their son to be raised.

Pike visits the monastery to retrieve a time crystal and finds that their son is now a fully grown adult called Tenavik. He explains that life on Boreth is affected by the crystals and that if Pike takes one, he will not be able to change the future that it shows him. When he touches it he sees his future where he is severely disabled in an accident. He chooses to take the crystal anyway to serve the greater good.

Meanwhile, Burnham and Spock investigate a Section 31 ship that was late for check-in. They find all of the crew are dead except for one, Kamran Gant, an old colleague of Burnham's. Gant has been possessed by Control and attempts to transfer itself to Burnham. Spock is able to stop the transfer of Control using magnetism, and they both escape back to Discovery.

The Section 31 fleet soon arrives and is clearly under the influence of Control. Pike orders Discovery be destroyed to keep the Sphere data away from Control.
