On Vulcan, T'Prynne undergoes Pon farr. She rejects her potential mate, Sten, and chooses the kal-if-fee combat instead. Fighting on her own behalf, she kills Sten. He chooses to implant his katra in her mind during his last moments. Unable to remove it, she will spend the next 53 years fighting against him within her mind. She does not return to Vulcan for this entire time. [2]
