One of the Federation's leading archeologists, Galen was a mentor and father figure to Captain Picard. In the 2360s he made an amazing discovery - that fragments of DNA from various different species could be combined to form a computer program. Galen proved that many of the species in the galaxy today were created by a progenitor race which had existed billions of years ago. Unfortunately he was killed before he could complete his work. Captain Picard did manage to locate the final pieces of the puzzle and discovered that the program was a message of goodwill from the Progenitors. [1]
