Angel was a captain of a the pirate ship The Serene Squall. In 2258 she left the ship and pretended to be a Starfleet councillor called Aspen. She boarded the USS Enterprise and persuaded them that there were colonists that had been kidnapped by the crew of the Squall and were about to be sold into slavery. [1]

Captain Pike mounted a rescue mission but soon found his ship trapped in a laser defence grid. When he escaped the trap the Squall arrived. Pike lead an away mission to the ship in an attempt to rescue the colonists. At the same time the a large contingent of the Squall's crew beamed aboard the Enterprise and eventually took it over. At this point Angel revielded her identity and took over the Enterprise. [1]

Her main goal was the capture Spock and only captured the Enterprise as a way of achieving that. She then contacted T'Pring and used Spock as leverage to force T'Pring into releasing her lover Xaverius, who was in the custody of T'Pring in the Ankeshtan K’Til Vulcan criminal rehabilitation centre on the 3rd moon of Omicron Lyrae. [1]

When Spock heard a description of Xaverius and his beliefs he surmised that he was in actuality is half brother Sybok. Warned by his parents to have nothing to do with Sybok, Spock was keen to keep him in custody. To further this he developed a ruse that he had an affair with Nurse Chapel, allowing T'Pring to be free to keep Sybok in custardy. [1]

After failing to get Xaverius released she beamed away to a small ship she had near by and escaped. [1]
