Alice Gavin was captain of the USS Peregrine in 2258 when, during a mapping mission in none Federation space, the ship discovered three castaways on the class M planet. A human girl, Oriana, an Orion named Pasko and a member of DITL Species 1222, later named Buckley by Oriana. Unbeknownst to Captain Gavin the Origon was infested with Gorn eggs. [1]

Despite the Orion's attempts to kill himself with a grenade the Gorn hatched and managed to kill some of the Peregrine's crew. The ship crashed on Valeo Beta V, a class L planet. When the USS Enterprise discovers the ship several days later none of the crew were alive, with only Oriana and Buckley surviving. [1]
