A Starfleet Admiral, Chekote placed Riker in temporary command of the Enterprise-D after the apparent death of Captain Picard in 2370. He placed the ship on detached duty, with Riker free to choose his own mission, so that it could investigate the death. [1] He also ordered Sisko to abandon Deep Space Nine when the Circle threatened to attack the station. [2]
