Captain of the NX-02, Hernandez was an old girlfriend of Captain Archer. The two broke off their relationship when Archer was promoted to Captain, as he felt it was inappropriate to date a junior officer. When Archer was on Earth after defeating the Xindi weapon, Hernandez accompanied him on a mountain climbing trip and the two rekindled their romance when she pointed out that they were now of equal rank again. [1] The Columbia was finally launched some months later, shortly after Commander Tucker joined the ship as Chief Engineer. [2] Shortly afterwards Hernandez assisted the NX-01 in resolving a crisis involving a deadly virus which was threatening to sweep through the Klingon Empire. [3]
