An alien child, Barash was forced to flee from his planet along with his mother when an enemy attacked. His mother left him on an uninhabited planet, with advanced holographic/replicator technology which provided him whatever surroundings and appearence he wanted. When Barash became lonely he abducted Commander Riker and engaged in an elaborate deception, pretending first to be Riker's son in a future setting and then a Romulan captive. Barash agreed to go with Riker when the deception failed. [1]
