Childress was a dilithium miner on the planet Rigel XII. Along with Gossett he attempted to force Kirk to exchange Mudd's women and freedom for badly needed Dilithium crystals. Initially concerned only with how beautiful his prospective wife was, Childress began to develop genuine feelings for Eve McHuron and the two settled down together on the planet. [1]
