Doctor Roger Korby

NotesImagesTimelineQuotes
Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Doctor Roger Korby [1]
Species : Humans

Roger Korby was a renowned professor of archeological medicine. Doctor M'Benga once described him as the "Louis Pasteur of archaeological medicine". [2] Korby laid down there principals of archeological medicine: [3]
  1. Medicine is always ancient and new, as cultures' understanding of what medicine is changes over time. [3]
  2. The keys to solving our toughest medical problems are often found by looking backward. [3]
  3. As a result, archeological medicine is as much a study of history as it is of science. [3]
He was known to have published papers on molecular memory and corporeal transference. [4] His translation of medical records from the ruins of Orion revolutionisd Federation immunological medicine techniques and were required reading at Starfleet academy. [1]

In 2259 Korby accepted an application from Christine Chapel for a three month fellowship to study with him. [2] When Chapel returned to the Enterprise three months later Korby accompanied her and she told Spock and the crew that they were dating. [5]

Korby joined Christine on Starbase 1 for Federation day. When the crew fell under the spell of Trelane, a non-corporal lifeform with extra ordinary powers, everyone was convinced that Spock and Christine were to be married. For some reason Korby was able to break free of the spell. He was able to Spock free also. However, Trelane refused to call off the wedding and insisted that it continue, even turning Korby into a dog. Fortunately for everyone Trelane's father turned up and put everything right. [5]

Several months later an away team from the USS Enterprise worked together with Korby to investigate a hidden ruin on Vadia IX. One member of the away team, Dana Gamble, was killed and his body taken over by a Vezda, an evil lifeform from the dawn of time. Eventually, the Vezda was able to be captured and stored in a transporter buffer. [4]

Several months later Korby visited Skygowen a planet that was known to worship the Vezda. There met with a senior cleric called Zeperez, which turned out to be the reconstituted body of Dana Gamble still occupied by the Vezda. Eventually all the Vezda and Zeperez were returned to the dimensional prison and watched over by a new Beholder, none other than Captain Batel. [6]

About five years later Korby explored the dead world Exo III. He discovered technology left over by an ancient race which allowed him to create Humanoid androids. When he was badly injured on the planet Korby transferred his mind into an android. He maintained that the artificial body made no difference to his personality, but this proved to be incorrect. Korby committed suicide when faced with this fact. [1]
