Ensign Doug Appel was a male Human Starfleet officer who worked on the USS Cayuga in 2259. He was part of the landing party that was helping the colony on Parnassus Beta when the Gorn attacked. He was tasked with finding out why communication had been lost. He was the first person to see the Gorn destroyer descending through the planets atmosphere. He succeeded in getting the system working sufficiently to send an emergency request for assistance to all near by ships. [1]
