Re: The Narada
Consdiering phasers and disruptors tend to vaporise things at least partially they would not be a great thing to point at the mineral your mining, the torpedoes, yeah I can buy that I guess, but even then why would it need more than 1 or 2, it doesnt need to turn an astroid fiend into gravel in 15 ...

Re: The Narada
It was a MINING ship, it doesnt need weapons coverage. It need 1 or 2 low powered guns for basic basic defence. Or it needed them, as has already been stated, to blow up asteroids and cut into planets? Just like a current day mining operation may use C4 explosives to get somewhere, the Narada would...

Re: What's the matter with Red Matter?
It reverses the Pauli Exclusion principle above 200 degrees celcius. QED.

Re: Gamma Mission Prep
I'm good with taking Jon in command of the Tigerfish and leaving Liam on the Daystrom if you're keeping Mikey on the Daystrom.

Re: Gamma Mission Prep
I'm still about
I'd be willing to have Jon command the Tigerfish or the Daystrom if you want - I could quite easily have each of the brothers on each ship giving me the opportunity to do both.

Re: Self-Destruct
So really, if you're going to blow up your ship, it's best just to completely destroy it. You won't be saving any planets going with a lower level blast, unless the ship has already crashed. If it's floating around in space though, go ahead and nuke the core, the boom won't get very far. We've seen...

Re: Self-Destruct
[quote="Tyyr"]Except, again, each time antimatter touches a bit of normal matter it will detonate and push the normal and anti-matter apart again. /quote] Which would be counteracted by the other trillions of randomly placed interactions going on round those particles, hence meaning they a...

Re: Self-Destruct
The blast will be accelerating the anti-matter will also be accelerating bits and pieces of the ship away from the explosion as well (though at nothing like the speed of light). Not away from the ship, no. Throughout it, yes. Unless the propogation of the blast wave (which, as a guestimation, would...

Re: Self-Destruct
Anti-matter annhiliates with normal matter upon contact. After the first 'batch' had interacted, the speed (approaching the speed of light) of the blast would cause all other anti-matter to touch matter nearly instantaneously, creating one huge explosion, not trillions of tiny ones.

Re: Angels and Demons
Nah, it was the parachute actually. I was like "He had a PARACHUTE with him?" It was just so absurd! Should probably spoiler that - there's only really one time when there was the possibility of a parachute scene. Yeah, when I said there were a few convenient points, I was mainly talking ...

Re: Angels and Demons
Just seen it. Not bad at all. Rather contrived, as DVC was. I must say there was one moment that was meant to be dramatic, but which just made me burst out laughing. If you're thinking of the time when there was a multi-person crash then it had me in stitches. Unfortunately when I looked round ever...

Re: Angels and Demons
Just saw it - I loved it. There were, like any action/mystery film, a few rather convenient circumstances, but it didn't detract. I've not read the book though, and using the knowledge that the film is never as good as the book, prepare to be disappointed if you're expecting either a page for page t...

Angels and Demons
Anyone off to see this one? I loved the Da Vinci Code (not least for pissing off all the fundies out there) so am hoping this one can give it a run for its money. And it's got Tom Hanks in it. Yes, the one and only star of Big.

Re: Seafort Vs Thorin
Sound is 340 m/s. Hence 1/3 sound = 113 m/s. Still 3 orders of magnitude off which ever one he meant!

Re: Fed ground combat again
100 km/s is roughly 1/3 c. Assuming phasers beams move at c, that puts the effective combat radius at 1/3 that compared to phasers. That's a good reason not to use kinetic weaponry as your primary armament. You'd have to drop the projectile mass down and increase the speed, and at that point, you a...
