Investigating the loss of the SS Beagle, the Enterprise discovers a planet whose dominant civilisation parallels the Roman Empire of Earth, except that this Empire never fell. Although the locals attempt to capture the Enterprise crew and assimilate them into their society as slaves, the captured officers eventually escape and leave the planet behind. [2]
