Vic uses an image of Kira for a holographic character in this episode. When Quark tried to get a holo-image of her for the same purpose, her reaction was little short of violent! She sure has mellowed.

Factoid :
Ira Steven Behr had been trying to introduce a character like Vic Fontaine since season 4. Several attempts had failed for one reason or another.

Neither Nana Visitor nor Rene Auberjonois wanted Odo and Kira to become a couple, both preferring that they have a strong but non-romantic friendship.

Vic references the difficulty of getting a holographic image of Major Kira, referencing the subplot of "Meridian", which noted that no such images existed since she refused to go into a holosuite or let anybody take a holophoto of her. He goes on to explain that Julian had such an image as a result of Kira being stranded in his spy program, a reference to the episode "Our Man Bashir". A rather neat explanation for how Vic was able to recreate Kira so easily.

The episode is one of Ira Steven Behr's favourites, in part because he spent so long trying to get one like it made. However, to his great disappointment it was not a great favourite with the fans. Many thought that taking time out in the middle of a war to do shows about a holosuite program was an odd choice.

Odo takes a few lessons in love from a most unusual hologram in the form of 1960's singer Vic Fontaine. Vic has a talent for spotting and helping relationships, but is he going too far when he decides to get Odo and Kira together?
