Trelane, a young Q encounters the crew of the USS Enterprise for the first time. He alters reality to create a wedding between Spock and Chapel. His father Q turns up and puts things right. Trelane gives his age as 8,020 years at this time. [6]

Robert and Nancy Crater arrive on the planet M113 to do archaeological research. [7]

Christine Chapel's fiance, Dr. Roger Korby, disappears on Exo III. His last message describes cave formations he has discovered. Christine gives up a promising career in bioresearch to sign aboard a Starship in order to search for Korby. [8]
