Former close friend of Captain Kirk, Finney came to obsessively hate Kirk after he was put on report for failing to close a circuit in engineering. Finney was so consumed with revenge that he became mentally unbalanced, faking his own death and trying to blame Kirk for it. He subsequently tried to destroy the Enterprise, but was thwarted in his evil plot. [1]
