Commanding officer of the USS Yamato, Varley was keenly interested in the legends of the Iconian empire. He discovered the Iconian homeworld in 2365, but a probe from the planet infected his ship's computer with a virus which led to an antimatter containment breech. Varley was killed along with the rest of the crew. [1]
