A Starfleet officer, Ensign Perez was part of the security department aboard the USS Enterprise in 2171. During that year he responded to the intruder alert when the Ilea probe beamed aboard the ship. Perez questioned the probe's description of 'carbon based units' infesting the Enterprise, to be informed by Doctor McCoy that the term referred to Humans. [1]
