Laas was one of the hundred Changelings which the Founders sent into the galaxy as children in order to explore space. He shared his people's dislike of 'Solids', and when he met Odo in 2375 he would do little to fit in with life on Deep Space Nine. When a Klingon attacked Laas he killed the man, resulting in a murder charge. Kira and Odo helped laas escape the station; Odo was tempted to leave with him, but ultimately decided to remain. [1]
