Landru

TimelineQuotes
Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Landru [1]
Species : Artificial lifeform

A holographic projection used as an avatar by the powerful computer which ruled the planet Beta III. The original Landru was a leader several thousand years ago who sought to end all war, disease and crime by constructing the computer which would bear his name. The Landru computer ruled the planet for some six thousand years, hiding it's identity from the population by employing the avatar pictured. Landru used a process known as absorption to alter the personality of any person who threatened it's control. After absorption a person would think only of peace and tranquility. Landru destroyed the starship Archon when it visited the planet in 2167, probably absorbing most of the crew. Spock managed to convince Landru that in enforcing control of the population it was preventing them from reaching their full potential, and so in a sense injuring them. The paradox caused Landru to undergo a complete systems failure. [1]
