A member of the Enterpise-D crew, Van Mayter was an engineering officer who was serving on the ship whilst it investigated the Mar Oscura nebula in 2367. She was killed whilst investigating damaged caused to the ship by interactions with dark matter and the ship, literally falling half way into a deck before it reformed through her body. [1]
