Father to Dr. Julian Bashir, Richard tended to be something of a drifter who rarely held a job for long. He and Julian were never close, largely because Julian resented the genetic engineering which his parents gave him as a child. The truth emerged when Richard came to Deep Space Nine in 2373 for an interview with Dr. Zimmerman, and he agreed to plead guilty to engaging in illegal genetic engineering in return for Starfleet allowing Julian to continue to serve. Richard was sentanced to two years in prison. [1]
