A Human Starfleet officer, Lieutenant Farber was the senior engineering officer on Starbase 47 (Vanguard) in 2265. He was a heavily muscled man, and was a champion weight-lifter. Farber was fond of eating eggs, and Sandesjo would joke that one had to be quick to eat on the station before he ate out the entire supply. [1]

Before coming to Vanguard, Farber served aboard the Daedalus class USS Lovell. The Lovell had assisted in the completion of the station, and Farber had been so impressed with the modern design that he had requested a transfer. [2]

Farber was present in Vanguard's control room when news of the destruction of the New Boulder colony arrived in 2266. [3]
