Kirk appears, makes a speech, and starts punching the bad guy. Who'd have thunk it? :)

"That's telekinesis, Kyle!"

Nice Tenacious D reference.

Mh, not his best, IMHO. Too much time snarking on set pieces and not enough on the themes.

The show was still getting its feet under it at this point. Heck it was the second episode. Though Kirk seems to have hit his stride early. The man decided to punch a Q level entity.

I don't know that I'd cast Gary Mitchell in the same league as Q, but I see your point.

Guy who can kill you with a thought. Regardless of whether he can create alternate realities or just screw with the local town. Either way they're at a point where direct physical confrontation is probably a bad tactic.

That makes me wonder about Mitchell. Why didn't he use his powers to kill directly? He could have reached out and stopped Kelso's heart with a thought, or with a telekenitc thrust ruptured Kirks brain. He certainly SEEMED powerful enough.

He might not have had the experience with them yet to really know what he can do.

Yet he could cast "lightning"? That seems slightly trickier to me.

Except that it was mostly controlled by emotion. Therefore he probably didn't think, cast lightning and it appeared... It was probably more of I'm mad, oh, lightning.

Also a random discharge of non directed energy is probably easier than the other things that have been mentioned. But I'm just guessing... I'm no Q-like being.

And he might just have liked toying with the 'lesser' beings.

He also didn't have his powers for very long, did he?

No. What, a day or two?
