Hmm.....Remember when the Doctor was playing ECM and came up with the idea of shooting a photon torpedo with a phaser? Wouldn't remotely detonating the torpedo have been a better idea and achieved the same results???

#1 - he's a doctor, not a tac officer; and,

#2 - IF there was such a remote detonation system, and IF it were online.

Given that they had to actualy shoot the torp to blow it up, I'm betting there's no remote detonation system.

But no remote detonation? That's silly and unsafe. Even our modern day weapons have remote detonators for our torps and missles.
