What Would The Other Captains Have Done?
Re: What Would The Other Captains Have Done?
Kirk would have gotten his crew home first. When he came upon the Ferengi, he wouldn't have been swayed by their manipulation. If it came down to it, he would have givin them a s!@# faced grin and stuck them in the brig, and used the wormhole ASSUMING for a minute the female caretaker didn't fall in love with him and send them home as a parting gift.
Picard, I have to agree would have behaved somewhat like Janeway, but his main advantage is his crew. Data I'm sure could have found some way to effect one of those anomolies, and get them home, if Picard didn't manage to find some way to negotigiate with that species ( I forget their name ) with the Uber transporter to just beam them home.
I love Sisko, he's my choice for a Captain to use as a role model if I was an up and coming ensign seeking command, BUT I just don't think he would have gotten them home in anything remotely resembeling a timely fashion. He would have been to busy kicking a$$ and taking names
Archer, I really can't fomulate a theory on.

He used a timer in 'The Immunity Syndrome'. Precedent right there for it.Bryan Moore wrote:Kirk would have used a timer on Caretaker, clearly. He never would have been in that situation.

Well, Kirk has banged a random woman maybe once or twice...Deepcrush wrote:About as many times as he's lost his shirt or banged a random woman...
Re: What Would The Other Captains Have Done?
Has anyone counted how many times the various Captains have saved Earth/The Federation/Humanity?
Off the top of my head I can think of :-
Kirk.
1. Stopped V'Ger
2. Saved the Earth from the Alien Probe in Star Trek IV
Picard.
Saved the Humanity in TNG:All Good Things
Stopped the Borg in First Contact.
Stopped Shinzon in Nemesis
Janeway.
Saved the Earth for Species 8472's invasion
Sisko.
Erm, winning the Dominion War?

You mean the "invasion" for which the only evidence is the dick-waving of a gobby fighter jock or two?kostmayer wrote:Janeway.

Re: What Would The Other Captains Have Done?
For Kirk, you'd need to add
3) "The Changeling," when he destroys Nomad which was on his way to go wipe out all life on Earth.
Plus, you could count
4) "The City on the Edge of Forever," because he saved Earth's future from being taken over by Nazi Germany and restoring the timeline.
In "The Alternative Factor" Kirk helps save the entire universe because of the anti-matter/matter thing (in one of TOS's most boring episodes.)
"The Doomday Machine" and "Obsession" Kirk destroys things that likely would have eventually destroyed Earth, but he doesn't directly save Earth so it really doesn't count.

I'd change Janeway's to "crippling the Borg", since the ultimate goal of 8472's incursion into our universe is a somewhat contested subject here.

Re: What Would The Other Captains Have Done?
Just out of curiousity, how many times do you suppose Earth has been saved by Captains that we never heard of? How many times can an entire planet NEED saving in just a couple of hundred years, when it's existed how it has been for................(notice I'm leaving it blank) years???
Or are only the "televised" Captains able to save Earth???

Re: What Would The Other Captains Have Done?
Well, those are the captains who are supposedly the most heroic and/or in the right position to do a bit of saving. As far as how many times, remember: Earth is constantly portrayed as the heart of the Federation, even more than just being the site of the capital.

I just find it odd that every time Earth "happens" to be at risk, it "happens" to be a Captain on TV that saves the day.

Maybe Earth has been saved hundreds of times that we havent seen.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Re: What Would The Other Captains Have Done?
I find it likely that loads of other captains have taken action against other threats to Earth.

The Vulcans, Andorians, and Tellerites probebly laugh each time Earth is nearly destroyed, thinking "those silly humans, they WANTED to be the heart of the Federation" 8)
