Ep Discussion: SG1 1.16 "Enigma"

Post by Varthikes »

Stargate: SG-1
"Enigma"

The team comes across a race of Humans who are hundreds of years beyond Earth technically, introducing us to the Tollan. Certainly a change to what we've seen so far at this point. And, of course, we won't see the Tollan again until late in Season 3. I love the Tollan backstory--that they once traded advanced tech to a neighboring world and indirectly caused their annihilation. This resulting in their version of Starfleet's Prime Directive.

We also have the introduction of Colonel Maybourne, who will become a recurring problem to the team--especially to O'Neill in particular. With Maybourne, comes the NID--a section of the government completely made up by the writers, who have no problems with doing nasty things that our heroes wouldn't do in order to obtain advanced alien tech.

And, the Nox returns. I love the look on Maybourne's face when the Nox lady comes and takes the Tollan with her. The look of frustrating helplessness.

Aren't they called the Tollan?
There is not a problem in this world that can't be solved without the proper application of a sufficient number of thermonuclear ordnance.

I thougth this episode was fairly good. A nice change from all the primitive human civilisations we'd seen up 'till this point.

I really like the Tollans. A really nicely done episode.
What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

I really liked this episode too. Maybe my favorite so far. The guy from SAW is in it and he plays nearly the same role. I bet its his voice. Also had the nervous guy from a bunch of war movies around 2001-2003.

I was just thinking hey when are they going to get into an advance alien race. Nox hardly count. So I was happy to see that they visited one. The people of light coming back was cool too. I hope they revisit a lot of their old friends from time to time.
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.
