Plotline

A Starfleet counsellor called Aspen joins the Enterprise to visit a distant colony, which has been under attack from pirates. They are using a ship called the Serene Squall. On arrival Pike and the boarding party beam over to the pirate ship, however, at the same time the pirates beam to the Enterprise. Using his cooking skills and by manipulating the crew he causes a mutiny on the Serene Squall, allowing his team to take control of the ship.

Aspen is revealed to be the Captain of the Serene Squall, a person called Angel. She contacts T'Pring and insists that she release her lover, a Vulcan, who T'Pring is attempting to rehabilitate. Angel treatens to kill Spock if she refuses. T'Pring chooses to hand over the prisoner, so Spock pretends to have had an affair with Christine Chapel and breaks off their engagement. Angel attempts to fire on T'Pring's ship but Pike and his boarding party lock the Enterprise's systems. Angel flees and the pirates surrender.

Spock reassures T'Pring that he still loves her and tells Chapel that their friendship is strictly platonic. He also reveals that T'Pring's prisoner is actually his half brother Sybok.
