Well, let's see; the comedic moments were not very funny, the action moments not very exciting, and the character moments not very consistent. Data loses any character development garnered from the last two movies and feels more like the character from TNG's second season. Worf magically appears without any good explanation and is there pretty much for comic relief. The Baku come across as arrogant and I can see why the Son'a left. We have yet another evil admiral in a long line of unethical Starfleet officers, it would have been nice that just this once instead of a Starfleet officer it was some sort of bureaucrat representing a faction of the Federation council instead. It was nice during the TOS movies when we saw actual politicians making political policy. Riker still on Enterprise playing second fiddle to Picard? I recall a time when the guy actually thought about his career. And if there is a war on wouldn't Picard's senior officers be sent off to other assignments? Two thousand ships lost and at least a million casualties means there would be a high demand for experienced officers to command ships. Guess that makes too much sense and I am just supposed to pretend these movies take place in another univ-Oh, wait, they mentioned Ketrecel White and our evil admiral mentioned the Dominion. In the end, the movies fails on many levels. I do not find the Baku cause interesting or inspiring enough to care about them, the story is full of too many holes and characters I like are portrayed in ways I just hate. I give it an extra star because it sucked less than Star Trek V. |

As much as I disliked Insurrection, I feel that Nemesis fails even more spectacularly. The action was not very impressive and once more the humur was handled terribly. Worf being with Starfleet again was a slap in the face of the DS9 television series where we saw Worf's progression and character development; why couldn't he have been along as Riker's best man, and when the detour begins as Klingon's envoy to Shizon? It is a big deal to me that the Next Gen movies largely ignored DS9 where Worf was concerned. Shizon was a lame villain, the Remans lame bad guys retconned into Trek lore. They are ugly, hence they must be evil. The Romulans are portrayed as idiots in that they actually trust a slave to act in their interests. The action was not very good and Shizon's desire for revenge not very well thought out. Why hate Earth? Why does he want to destroy it? The source of his hatred should be the race that created and enslaved him, then cast him into the mines to rot, forgotten flotsam. Vulcan should be his target, the true Romulan homeworld. The movie blatantly steals from Star Trek II, right down to Data downloading his katra to B4 and the doomsday countdown of the Genesis d...sorry, Thalaron radiation weapon. Disappointing from start to finish. |

I loved this movie. I loved the actions, I enjoyed the visuals, and I laughed in all the right places. The cast was amazing and I am very much looking forward to the next movie (fingers crossed). Does the movie have flaws? Of course it does. But the pluses so outweigh the minuses that I am more than happy to dismiss them. |
