Hirogen Communications Relay

Universe : Prime Timeline
Class Name : Hirogen Communications Relay [1]

Notes

The Hirogen maintained a vast network of these stations which spread across a large part of the galaxy. In 2374 Voyager was able to use the network to transmit the EMH's program to the USS Prometheus in the Alpha Quadrant. [2] Starfleet subsequently used the network to send a transmission to Voyager, much of which consisted of personal letters to the crew. The stations produced an intense gravimetric field out to a distance of at least two light years, a result of the black hole which acted as their power source. Radiometric decay indicated that the network was at least one hundred thousand years old. As part of their efforts to disable a Hirogen ship Voyager weakened the containment field around one of the relay's black holes. The station was destroyed, creating a power surge which disabled the entire network. [3]
