Notes

These ships served on the Federation border in the early and mid 2360s. They are considered to be highly outclassed by larger Federation Starships, hardly surprising since they carry particle and laser weaponry which has been considered obsolete in the Federation for more than a century. [1] Still, the Talarian warship is an effective and efficient design which packs quite a powerful punch considering the relative primitiveness of the technology used. Relatively little is known about the ships beyond their basic specifications and armament.

When the Enterprise-D assisted a disabled Talarian Observation Ship in 2366, on of its crew was discovered to be a Human teenager abducted by the Talarians as a child. Several of these vessels attempted to force the Enterprise-D to return the boy. Although they were no military threat to the Galaxy class ship, Captain Picard did eventually agree to the Talarian's demands. [1]

Comments

Seen in the TNG episode "Suddenly Human", the weaponry of the ship were described in that episode. It was substantially inferior to the Enterprise-D - which is a rather odd choice on two fronts. Dramatically, it removed any sense of threat from the episode and so made it less interesting. But also, the Federation was supposed to have fought a war with the Talarians in which large numbers of people died. If the disparity in technology was then as it was in the episode, it is hard to see how the war was anything other than a turkey-shoot by Starfleet. We could suggest that larger, more powerful Talarian ships exist but were not seen in the episode, but it seems unlikely that the Talarians would defend a border with a former enemy with anything short of their best.

The sizes are an approximation, whilst the remaining figures are speculative.
