Notes

Refits and upgrades kept the original D7 an effective combat vessel throughout most of its long service life, but by the mid 2200s the Federation was fielding designs such as the Constitution class [4] which considerably outclassed it. As a result, the Klingons fielded a modified version of the ship during the 2260s. This variant shared the same basic hull form with the original vessel, but included various detail changes. A cleaner hull [4] allowed for slightly increased subspace streamlining; combined with redesigned nacelles this increased the top speed. The armament was also boosted.

Despite the changes, the refitted D7 was still not a match for the Constitutions. Several skirmishes occurred with the Federation during the 2260s, generally pitting the D7 against the Constitution class Starships. The Federation design was generally the victor in these encounters. [5]

Eventually the D7 class was retired in favour of the succeeding K'T'Inga class.
