Eminiar VII13 An inhabited planet located in the NGC 321 star cluster. Eminiar colonised the third planet in their system, Vendikar, some time prior to the mid 18th century. Vendikar eventually turned against Eminiar and a war broke out between the two in 1767. The primary means of fighting was the use of long range transporters to materialise fusion bombs over cities; the destruction was so great that both civilisations were threatened with total destruction. As a result, the two societies entered into an agreement to conduct the war via computers; attacks would be carried out mathematically and casualties registered. Those designated as casualties would them report to disintegration machines for disposal. This allowed the war to continue on an permanently sustainable basis.13

Eminiar was in an important strategic location with regards to the Federation, and in 2217 the USS Valiant was sent to make contact with the planet. Unfortunately an attack was calculated to have destroyed the ship in orbit, and the Eminians were able to overpower and eliminate the crew in response. The Eminians resisted all further outside contact as strongly as possible, but in 2267 the USS Enterprise was sent to force the issue by making contact over and above their wishes. Again an attack registered the ship as a casualty, but Captain Kirk was able to resist all efforts at immolating him and force a breakdown in the system governing the war. Federation Ambassador Fox offered his assistance in negotiating an end to the conflict.13

Romulus35 Located in Sector Z-6, Romulus is the capital world of the Romulan Empire and home planet of the Romulan species.35 Romulus was colonised some time after the rise of Surak's philosophy of non-emotionalism on Vulcan in the year 370. Those Vulcans who refused to accept this transition left the planet, founding various settlements on different planets u as they travelled. One group eventually settled on Romulus and founded a new civilisation there.25 The Romulan civilisation has generally been an aggressive one, and in the 22nd century they fought a war with Earth forces. The war eventually ended with the creation of a neutral zone between the two, a volume of space which both sides were forbidden to send any military forces into.35 Over the years some transgressions did occur, but very few Federation personnel had ever actually penetrated to Romulus itself even by the 24th century.37

Admiral Jarok considered Romulus to be more beautiful than any of the hundred plus worlds he had visited in his military career. He was particularly impressed by the the firefalls of Gath Gal'thong, the Apnex Sea, and the valley of Chula.38

In 2368 Federation intelligence located Ambassador Spock on Romulus39, prompting a covert mission by Captain Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data to the planet. Spock had been working on his own initiative to try and work towards the reunification of the Romulan and Vulcan people. Although Data and Picard did help Spock avert a crisis involving a Romulan attempt to invade Vulcan itself, Spock chose to remain behind on Romulus in order to continue working towards a peaceful reunification.40

The planet Remus was located in the same system as Romulus. In 2379 Shinzon murdered the entire Romulan Senate with Thalaron Radiation and requested talks with the Federation. Captain Jean Luc Picard took the Enterprise-E to Romulus itself, the first time a Federation Starship had penetrated the system. The invitation proved to be a trap, but the Enterprise was able to escape.36

Spock did make some progress in his efforts to deepen relations between Romulus and the Federation and in 2387, when the planet was threatened by an exploding star, the Romulans approached him to request Federation assistance. Spock personally piloted the vessel that would attempt to neutralise the exploding star with an injection of red matter, but he was too late. Romulus was destroyed with the loss of the entire population.41

Without this control a lot of the surface area would have been an unpleasant swampland ridden with earthquakes.66 Risa is approximately 90 light years from Earth, and was first visited by Humans in 2152 when the NX-01 crew took shore leave there. The planet was considered to be very cosmopolitan at the time, with visitors from many different species.68 Tourism was one of the major industries on Risa, with the Vulcan database listing more than two hundred registered Nuvian masseuses on the planet69 and attractions including subterranean gardens filled with luminescent plants, steam pools68, and a water recreation park.70

In 2135 T'Pol tracked a two Vulcan fugitives to Risa. She killed one, but the other escaped.71 In the 24th century, Commander Riker was very fond of the planet and managed to convince Captain Picard to holiday there.66 Riker met and had a brief romance with a Ktarian woman, Etana Jol, on the planet in 2368, though she subsequently proved to be a covert operative.72 Geordi La Forge was on his way to Risa in 2367 when he was abducted by Romulans.73 Starfleet intelligence believed that Federation Ambassador Krajensky was replaced by a Founder infiltrator whilst visiting Risa in 237174 Worf and Jadzia also vacationed on the planet in 2373, where they encountered the New Essentialist, a small political movement that saw Risa as an example of how decadent the Federation had begun. Hanoran II325 Planet on which the Enterprise-E was due to carry out an archeological expedition in 2375. It was suggested that the ship divert to the Goren system, though Picard worried that this would mean arriving at Hanoran II in the monsoon season.325 Star Trek : Insurrection
Ba'ku325 An M class planet located in the Briar Patch. The planet had a ring system which was loaded with metaphasic radiation; the effect of this was to grant exceptionally long life to the inhabitants of the planet. It was the site of a Ba'ku settlement of about 600 people who had fled their original home world fearing that their species was on a path to self-destruction. The Ba'ku favoured a simple pastoral lifestyle, eschewing most forms of technology.325

Eventually a group of Ba'ku became dissilusioned with this mode of living and left the planet, with the result that they began to age normally. They dubbed themselves the Son'a. In 2375 the Son'a, in collusion with the Federation, attempted to harvest the ring system of the metaphasic radiation to regain their youth.325

Star Trek : Insurrection
Kolarus III36 A class M planet with a mean orbital radius of 1.2 AU, a mass of 5.972x10^24 kg, and an Oxygen/Nitrogen atmosphere. Droplet252 The fourth planet of the UFC 86783 system - named as New Kaferia by the Stellar Cartography department on the USS Titan since the star was very similar to Kaferia’s star Tau Ceti - Droplet was a Léger-type ocean planet. It was Class O, subclass L1. It had a lower density than Earth but was larger, giving it about three times the total mass. Nearly half of that mass was water ice.252

Droplet had a metal core thirty seven hundred kilometres deep, surrounded by nearly three thousand kilometres of silicate rock. Above that was a mantle of high-pressure allotropic ice over four thousand kilometres deep. Above the ice was an ocean of liquid water some ninety kilometres deep.252

The planet was in an unusually wide orbit around the sun, but had a tropical climate due to the considerable greenhouse in the atmosphere combined with convection currents in the oceans which brought heat up from the bottom.252

Unusually for such worlds, Droplet was inhabited by a variety of life forms including higher-order life. Although there was no solid land, the surface was dotted with floating islands composed of a coral-like substance created by living beings.252

The USS Titan discovered Droplet in 2381, the ship's first stop on the exploratory mission which it resumed after the Borg crisis earlier that year.252

Ravanar IV151 A planet within the Taurus Reach, and the fourth planet in the Ravanar system. The planet was first surveyed by the USS Constellation in 2263. Analysis of biological samples from the planet resulted in the discovery of the Taurus meta gene, which led to a major Federation effort to colonise the region.151

By 2265 the Federation maintained a research outpost on the planet under the command of Commander Dean Singer. The outpost was destroyed by a Tholian fleet in that year along with the USS Bombay, a Starship in orbit.151
Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 1 - Harbinger
Talagos Prime151 A Federation colony planet in the Taurus Reach. In 2265 the USS Bombay was going to transport Lieutenant Commander Stutzman to the colony on Talagos Prime so that he could rejoin the USS Endeavour when it arrived there. The Bombay never made the journey, as it was destroyed by the Tholians at Ravanar IV.151 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 1 - Harbinger
Getheon151 A Federation planet in the Taurus Reach. In 265 the USS Bombay was scheduled to pick up a team of dilithium prospectors who had been stranded on Getheon when their warp drive failed. The Bombay was unable to complete the mission as she was destroyed in orbit of Ravanar IV by a Tholian fleet.151 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 1 - Harbinger

Boam II251 A Human colony world located in the Taurus reach, Boam II was one of the first settlements the Federation placed in the area. In 2265 Cervantes Quinn was granted a contract to ship supplies from Starbase 47 to Boam II.251 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Yerad III251 A planet just outside the bounds of the Taurus Reach. The planet was considered by Cervantes Quinn as a third-rate imitation of Risa or Wrigley’s Pleasure Planet, the home of a large number of resorts, spas and other tourist destinations. It was also known for being the home of a loose collection of nefarious individuals, many of whom used the remote isolated location and large volume of traffic to and from the planet to hide their activities from the authorities. The Yerad system was the home of an outer planet which contained dilithium mines.251

In 2265 the Klingon Empire was interested in the Yerad system, both for the dilithium mines and as a possible strategic point for ship servicing operations. The criminal Ganz also had operations on Yerad III.251
Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
McIlvain’s Planet251 A Federation world in the Taurus reach, McIlvain's Planet was settled by Tellarians and Rigellians, each settling a different landmass. Despite the distance between the colonies, both sides did not get on well together and a case was brought before the Starfleet JAG office for arbitration. The case was referred to the Colonial Administration office.251 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Palgrenax251 A planet located within the Taurus Reach, and the home world of the Palgrenai. In galactic terms Palgrenax possessed nothing of military or political value. Mineral ores on the planet were of marginal use for refining or energy generation, and were especially lacking in materials used in Klingon warships. The planet was too remote from Federation colonies and patrol routes to have any real strategic value for the Klingons. Nevertheless, they conquered the planet in the mid 23rd century.251

Palgrenax was home to a collection of ancient ruins located on one continent. The Chancellor and High council were interested in the ancient structures, and the Klingon Governor Morqla speculated that this may be the reason behind their conquest. When the Klingon scientists analysing the object managed to activate it, a member of the Shedai species which had constructed the device used it to attack the Klingon occupation forces. A cruiser in orbit bombarded the alien structures in reprisal, prompting the Shedai to destroy the planet.251
Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Erilon251 A planet located within the Taurus Reach. Erilon was Class M in the distant past, but about 27000 years ago the climate shifted radically, changing the planet to a Class P. This left it largely glaciated and devoid of life.151 However, some microbes were left frozen in the ice. Investigation of these showed that they bore the Taurus meta-gene. A large alien artefact was also located on the planet by the crew of the USS Endeavour.251 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Zenstala II251 A Tholian planet close to the Taurus Reach. In 2265 the a Klingon task force attacked and destroyed the Tholian military outpost on Zenstala II.251 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder

Jinoteur I251 The first of the five planets of the Jinoteur system. Jinoteur I had two moons, which, like all moons in the system, were in orbits such that they never came between the planet and the system's star. They also exhibited rotation in such a way that one hemisphere always faced away from the center of the system. Artificial structures stood on those outward facing hemispheres. Jinoteur I was uninhabited.251 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Jinoteur II251 The second of the five planets of the Jinoteur system.251 Jinoteur II has two moons.53 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Jinoteur III251 The third of the five planets of the Jinoteur system. Jinoteur IV was not inhabited, although there were signs that it had been in the past.251 The planet has two moons.53 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Jinoteur IV251 The fourth of the five planets of the Jinoteur system.251 Jinoteur IV has three moons53, one of which was the source of the mysterious signal which disrupted some of Starbase Vanguard's systems during the final stages of the station's construction. Like all the moons in the system, it orbited in such a way that one hemisphere always faced the star, whilst the moon itself never came between the star and the planet.251 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Jinoteur V251 The fifth of the five planets of the Jinoteur system.251 A gas giant, Jinoteur V had four moons.53 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 2 - Summon the Thunder
Typerias53 A planet in the Taurus reach. Typerias was a good distance from Starbase 47 (Vanguard); it took the Archer-class scout-ship USS Sagittarius six weeks to reach the station from Typerias, which Commodore Reyes considered to be a good time for the journey.53 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 3 - Reap The Whirlwind
Davlos II53 A planet in the Davlos system, neighbour to Davlos III and thus in close proximity to the Klingon border. The criminal Morikmol was alleged to have ripped a Klingon’s arms completely out of their sockets during a bar fight on the planet.53 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 3 - Reap The Whirlwind
Borzha II53 A Klingon planet in the Taurus reach. In 2266 the cruiser Zin'za was stationed at Borzha II when it received orders to proceed to the Jinoteur system to capture the USS Sagittarius. Commodore Reyes made a deal with Ganz to have the ship sabotaged to delay the mission whilst he rushed vital parts to the starship. The effort was not successful.53 Star Trek : Vanguard, Book 3 - Reap The Whirlwind
Lerais II328 A Federation colony world established in the Taurus reach in 2267. Lerais II was three months from Rigel X at Warp 5. A lush, green world, it was considered a prime candidate for a farming colony.328

There were four major landmasses on the planet, and polar caps at both poles.328

Altamid329 A planet in proximity to Starbase Yorktown. In the mid 22nd century the USS Franklin crash-landed on Altamid after being flung into the depths of space by a wormhole. Only three of the crew survived, including Captain Balthazar M. Edison. They discovered the remains of a massive and sophisticated society on the planet, most of it underground. The Altamidians had long since departed the planet, but much of their technology remained intact there.329

Balthazar came to master much of this technology, transforming himself into a local warlord and pirate.329

Nibiru331 A Class M planet, Nibiru was the home world of the Nibirans, a technologically unsophisticated race of humanoids. In 2259 the USS Enterprise was on a mission to survey the planet when they discovered that it threatened with an environmental catastrophe as a result of a gigantic volcano which was near to eruption. As this would have rendered the Nibirans extinct, Captain Kirk chose to intervene to avert the eruption and prevent the disaster.331

Afterwards, Kirk lied about their actions on his report to Starfleet. Spock, however, chose to relate all of the details of their mission. Admiral Marcus responded be relieving Kirk of his command.331

Star Trek Into Darkness
Nimbus III332 A planet established as "The Planet of Galactic Peace", to build bonds of cooperation between the Federation, Klingons and Romulans by having a planet in the neutral zone whose population comprised of all three species. The effort was considered a failure, as the major powers never followed up on it. Life on Nimbus III was harsh and the standard of living low. In 2285 it was here that Sybok raised his rebellion, capturing the capital city and taking all three ambassadors hostage.332 Star Trek V : The Final Frontier
Sha Ka Ree332 Also known as Vorta' Vor and Eden, this planet was thought to be mythical until it was found at the centre of the galaxy beyond the Great Barrier. The Enterprise-A travelled here in 2285.332 Star Trek V : The Final Frontier
Khitomer333 Site of important peace conferences between the Federation and Klingon Empire in 2293. The location was chosen as it was considered by the Klingons to be a neutral location.333

By the 2340s, Khitomer was a Klingon world, the site of a colony. It was attacked by the Romulans in 2346. Thanks to the betrayal of the Duras family the attack was a complete success, resulting in the massacre of 4,000 colonists.334 The House of Mogh was almost destroyed in the attack, though the infant Worf was rescued by a Starfleet officer whose ship responded to the attack.335

Other Klingons were captured in the attack, and kept in Romulan captivity for decades afterwards.44

In 2381 Khitomer was one of the Alpha Quadrant planets targeted in the Borg attack. The USS Ranger managed to defeat the first Borg attack, but not the second, the planet was completely devastated in the attack2

Qo'noS333 A Class M planet, Qo’noS - rendered in English as Kronos - is the home world of the Klingon species and capital of the Klingon Empire.333 The planet was first visited by Humans in 2151 when the crew of the NX-01 took the Klingon operative Klaang back to his people.58 The co-ordinates of Qo’noS are 43.89.26.05331, placing it some 4 days away from Earth at Warp 4.5.58

Qo’noS had at least one moon, Praxis, which was a key energy production facility for the Empire during the 23rd century. The Klingons took insufficient safety precautions and over-mined the moon, which resulted in a devastating explosion in 2293. Much of Praxis was destroyed, producing a massive subspace shockwave and severely damaging the planet’s ozone layer and leading to increasing oxygen depletion. The planet was expected to become uninhabitable by 2343333, although apparently some way was found to avert this.336

Captain Picard visited Qo’noS in 2366 as part of Lieutenant Worf’s attempt to clear his family name. Although Worf accepted discommendation in a political deal to protect the Empire from dissolving into civil war, he and Captain Picard returned to the planet in 2367 to clear his name - and did indeed spark a civil war in the process.337

Quark would also visit Qo’noS in 2371 during his brief marriage to the Lady Grilka.338

In the Kelvin timeline, Khan Noonien Singh took refuge on Qo’noS after his attack on Starfleet headquarters. He hid in a deserted province of the planet, knowing Starfleet would find it difficult to pursue him there. Admiral Marcus ordered Captain Kirk to bombard the planet with long range torpedoes from the edge of Klingon space in order to kill Khan. Kirk disobeyed orders and instead took a small ship to the planet and captured him.339

The planet was divided up into various regions. The Ketha lowlands were the birthplace of Chancellor Martok, an area dominated by farmlands.246 Grilka was from the Mekro’vak region. 340 There were also many geographical features of note, including the Lava Caves of No'Mat, the heat of which could produce hallucinogenic effects in Klingons. Worf once experienced a vision of Kahless after spending six days in the caves. 44 The Hamar Mountains were home to Targs whose shoulders were used in the making of var’Hama candles.341 The Sea of Gatan was a body of water in which B’Elanna Torres almost drowned as a child.342 Kang's Summit was a location where Chancellor Martok once hunted Sabre Bear.343 The Kri'stak Volcano, and the nearby Lake of Lusor were also notable. According to legend Kahless forged the first Bat’leth sword by dipping a lock of his own hair into the lava of the volcano and then cooling it in the lake.295 The Skral River was noted in a Klingon drinking song which claimed that it once ran red with blood after a battle.342

Cities on Qo’noS included Qam-Chee, the site of a famous battle in which the Emperor Kahless and Lady Lukara stood against five hundred warriors - and, later on, jumped on one another ‘like a pack of wild voles’, beginning the greatest romance in Klingon history. 344

Quin'lat was another historic city. According to legend a great storm once approached this city; whilst Kahless and others took shelter inside, one Klingon remained to face the storm, determined to make it respect him. The man was killed, and Kahless noted afterwards that his act was more one of foolishness than courage.340

Tong Vey was yet another city at which a famous battle took place. Ten thousand warriors, led by the Emperor Sompek, conquered the city after a long siege. Sompek ordered it burned to the ground and every inhabitant killed. Worf enjoyed playing the part of Sompek in a holosuite recreation of the battle, always ending the simulation by giving the order to raze the city.300

In 2381 Qo'noS was one of the Alpha Quadrant planets targeted in the Borg attack. The planet was badly damaged in the attack, though not completely devastated.2

Rura Penthe333 Frozen moon, the site of an infamous Klingon forced labour camp. Also known as "The Alien's Graveyard" because of the extremely high death rate amongst the prisoners.333 In 2152 Captain Archer was sent to Rura Pente, but the NX-01 crew managed to bribe the guards to secure his release.214

In 2381 Rura Pente was one of the Alpha Quadrant planets targeted in the Borg attack. The planet was devastated in the attack.2

Sarpedion V360 The fifth planet of the Sarpedion planetary system, located within Cardassian space. Sarpedion V was the headquarters of the Cardassian Twelfth Order during the Dominion war. As such, it was considered to be one of the most heavily fortified locations in the entire Cardassian Union.360

In 2375, Chancellor Gowron planned a direct assault on Sarpedion V. He ordered General Martok to lead the attack with a force of fifteen Vorcha-class cruisers, a force level that Gowron thought would 'barely scratch' the defences.360

This order led Worf to accuse Gowron of reckless disregard for his men. The two fought, and Worf killed Gowron. Worf declined the Chancellorship, placing Martok in the leadership position in his place. The attack was thus never carried out.360

Gamma Tauri IV418 Fourth planet of the Gamma Tauri system. The Ferengi stole a T-9 energy converter from Gamma Tauri IV in 2364.418

The planet was colonised in 2363. In 2366, the USS Lovell spent an extended period on colony support at the planet. During the same year Jeanne Vinueza took over as the Colony Leader on the planet. One of her first actions was to reject protectorate status from the Federation, claiming independence for the colony. In foregoing Starfleet protection she hoped that the planet would not attract the attentions of the Klingons in the increasing climate of hostility with the Federation.53

Gamma Tauri IV was an agricultural colony. It lacked any deposits of dilithium. The planet had a single landmass, an irregular crescent shape that stretched almost two-thirds of the planet's circumference, covering latitudes from the subarctic to subantarctic. It totalled more than a third of the entire planet's surface area.53

In 2266 the Shedai launched a massive attack on the Federation colony on Gamma Tauri IV, killing thirteen thousand people. In response Commodore Reyes ordered the Starship Endeavour to enact Starfleet General Order 24. The ship bombarded the surface, exterminating every living thing, blasting away its atmosphere, cooking its oceans, and leaving it as nothing but a red-hot ball of glass.53

Beta III443 The third planet of the C-111 system, Beta III was home to a pre-warp humanoid species. Approximately 6,000 years ago the planet was wracked by civil wars, so much so that a leader named Landru created a highly sophisticated computer system to solve the problem. The computer was capable of "absorbing" a person, radically altering their personality in order to make them dedicated to peaceful coexistence. Unfortunately this had the effect of stifling their natural emotions to such an extent that some form of outlet was needed; the computer solved this by allowing periodic release during "festivals", in which the population was encouraged to run riot. In 2167 the USS Enterprise visited the planet; Captain Kirk determined that the computer, which had also dubbed itself Landru, was stifling the society rather than continuing it. He destroyed the computer, leaving some sociologists to assist the population in forming a society of their own.443 The Return of the Archons
