A member of the Shedai ruling elite, known as the Serrataal, the Herald was one of those woken by the Wanderer in 2266. He had spent his sleep under the ocean of a Class O planet. He was the first to join the Wanderer in awakening the other Shedai. [1]

Causing agitation amongst the other Shedai - both the Serrattal and the so-called "Nameless" bulk of the society - was a favored activity of the Herald. The Wanderer regarded this behaviour as contemptuous, since it rendered him unpredictable and prevented her from discerning his true loyalties, if any. [1]
