A Vulcan male, Sten was bonded to T'Prynn. When the time came to formalise their union T'Prynn rejected Sten, choosing the kal-if-fee. Instead of selecting a champion to fight for her, however, she chose to fight Sten herself. Although she killed him in the kal-if-fee, Sten used his last moments to transfer his katra into T'Prynn through a forced mind meld. Neither she nor Vulcan experts were ever able to remove the katra, and she carried it for decades afterwards. Sten's consciousness fought against T'Prynn for that entire time, constantly trying to force her into submitting to his will. [1]
