Commodore Diego Reyes

TimelineQuotes
Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Commodore Diego Reyes [1]
Species : Humans

A human of Chilean ancestry, Diego Reyes was born and raised in the Lunar settlement of New Berlin. He was a large man, tall and broad-shouldered, and typically walked with a heavy tread. He joined Starfleet in 2225. By 2265 he would rise to command of Starbase 47, also known as Vanguard. [1]

Reyes was known as being an amiable commander, though he was quite willing to be tough when he thought the occasion called for it. He had a dark sense of humour, and generally kept himself from becoming too close to his subordinates. This was to some extent a result of his bitter divorce from his wife Jeanne, which left him unwilling to form close relationships. [1]

Despite this, Reyes was engaged a romantic relationship with Captain Rana Desai. [1]

Reyes often struggled with the burdens caused by having to manage the Taurus Reach and Starbase 47 whilst keeping the real mission of Starfleet in the area a complete secret. In 2266 he chose to inform both Doctor Fisher and Rana Desai about the true mission of Vanguard, feeling that they deserved to know. He was also saddened when his intelligence officer, T'Prynn destroyed the career of Tim Pennington by feeding him disinformation to discredit him in order to keep the secret. [2]

Perhaps most distressing was when he was forced to keep the re-emergence of the Shedai and the threat they represented from his former wife, Jeanne Vinueza, when she became the Governor of the New Boulder colony on Gamma Tauri IV. Although he implored Vinueza to evacuate the colony she repeatedly refused, leading to the loss of the entire colony. Vinueza's last transmission was an accusation levelled at Reyes for refusing to tell her the truth regarding the danger. [3]

In the aftermath of the disaster, Reyes ordered the USS Endeavour to implement General Order 24, destroying the entire surface of the planet. He subsequently revealed the details of the loss of the USS Bombay to Tim Pennington, giving him a story he could use to rehabilitate his career. Reyes was removed from command of Starbase 47 and placed under arrest by Captain Desai. [3]
