The cascading biogenic pulse caused by this radiation causes any living being caught within the discharge to undergo a rapid and catastrophic change, becoming almost rock-like - a process which is of course instantly fatal. In the 22nd century a coating of tri-fluorinate compound would seal the teeth, preventing tooth decay in most cases - though normal wear and tear over a period of decades could allow decay to occur in some cases.
