So...the Enterprise runs on fire?
That's basically what plasma is, right? In a highly simplified sense.
I was just thinking about what the "Electro Plasma System/EPS" actually is and its basically a bunch of pipes for shuffling around plasma right?
So starships don't run on electricity but basically fire directly?

More on hot air than fire, but essentially yes.LaughingCheese wrote:So starships don't run on electricity but basically fire directly?

I guess that kinda explains all the explosions....
"All this has happened before --"
"But it doesn't have to happen again. Not if we make up our minds to change. Take a different path. Right here, right now."

Ionized hot air, but essentially yes.

I thought it was Helium and Deuterium instead of air.

The warp core uses deuterium and antideuterium as reactants, but the power distribution network uses plasma as a medium. Aka ionised gas - hot air.Tholian_Avenger wrote:I thought it was Helium and Deuterium instead of air.

Did any of the shows ever state it was chemically atmospheric air in a plasma state? I apologize for this is nitpickery.

Re: So...the Enterprise runs on fire?
They said "plasma" plenty of times. Ergo, it was either the liquid component of blood or ionized gas. I could be wrong, but I suspect that the show referenced the latter. Probably not air - I'd guess it was an elemental gas or a simple compound. I'm not even sure you could make a plasma out of a multi-compound mixture like air.Tholian_Avenger wrote:Did any of the shows ever state it was chemically atmospheric air in a plasma state? Unless its something completely different that for one reason or another they decided to call plasma

I just asked a chemist, she told me to go catch lightening in glass jar and let her know what I find.
