Happiness Comes In .50 Cal.
I ordered and picked up a Traditions Pennsylvania Pellet Flintlock in .50 cal at the end of March and thought a few folks might be interested. Range day is looking to be near the end of April to give her a first firing, weather permitting. Thanks goes to The Duchess on SDN for recommending Traditions to me.
Shot of the pan, frizzen and jaws:
Pan, frizzen, jaws and touchhole:
Sabot (L) and some cheap bulk ammo for target shooting (R):
Now with flint installed:
I know the pictures suck, seem to have a problem taking decent ones.

I don't know much about these things, but it's a nice-looking piece. Any experience w/ muzzle-loaders?

Nope. Can't be to hard though, illterate conscripts used them for hundreds of years after all. I've been reading the manual and watching some "how to vids", so I have an idea. It'll just take some practice.Mikey wrote:I don't know much about these things, but it's a nice-looking piece. Any experience w/ muzzle-loaders?

Pretty. I am assuming that is not a traditional case to go with the traditional gun
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Sweet. I bet that'll be fun.
There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939

Nope, though I wouldn't call it traditional in anything but mechanism.Teaos wrote:Pretty. I am assuming that is not a traditional case to go with the traditional gun

They aren't to hard so long as you keep the barrel clean.Mikey wrote:I don't know much about these things, but it's a nice-looking piece. Any experience w/ muzzle-loaders?

What if you over or under load the weapon? I'm assuming you'll be using powder as they did, and not pre-prepared ammo

IIRC, you can get pre-measured paper cartridges of powder.

You can buy powder measures to avoid that problem. I will be using pellets, which are Pyrodex (modern black powder) compressed into a little round cake. They come in either 30-50 grains and using more then three of the 50's would be dangerous, so it won't be hard to keep track.Mark wrote:What if you over or under load the weapon? Yeah, I guess when the breech blows up, you know it's time to dial it back.

Do you plan on hunting or is it just for fun or the pending UFP invasion?

How does it feel? It looks like its made from plastic instead of wood. That would feel weird to me too have a plastic blackpower weapon. To light which would lose its old world soul for me.

Feels great, it's 7lbs (same as the wood stock model IIRC) so it has a decent weight to it. Certainly feels more solid then the C-7 I carried and the barrel is nice and heavy. My next one will be wood though, love that brass furniture.Deepcrush wrote:How does it feel? It looks like its made from plastic instead of wood.
