Could it be a gender difference? Maybe the TOS Gorn was a female, and the TNG one a male?

I'm pretty sure the TOS Gorn was refered to as male at least once.

I just looked at the pictures on the main site for the Gorn; they don't look that much different. Very slight facial differences, but that could be due to individualities among the species.

I'd call this:

a bit more than "slight facial differences". If the one in ENT hadn't been specificaly referred to as a Gorn, I would have taken it as a completely different species.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think that both individuals were reffered to as male.

Perhaps, though they still unusualy different for one to be just a juvenile. Considering that one was a Captain, and the other was a slaver, it wouldn't really make sense for one to be an adolescent, either.

They dont look that different. Not much more than a white and a black human do. A few facial differences and cosmetic changes.

I agree with Teaos - I'd say they're similar enough to be different subspecies or "races."

Most people wouldn't peg one of the "Black Irish" as an Irishman, but they are.

That's what I'd been suggesting; that they're different subspecies. The lack of compound eyes pretty much assures that conclusion.

Maybe those are some kind of lenses?

Or maybe he had cosmetic surgery. Those eyes are pretty bling. Good for picking up the lady Gorn.

*shrug*
It's a possibility.

What if the eyes are like cataracts? Maybe Kirk's Gorn is old and therefore slow and blind.

Maybe, though it'd be unusual for such an individual to be a captain of a starship, which I believe he was.

I suppose that's possible, but if he was aged to the point of failing abilities then I doubt he'd be in a position to encounter physically demanding tasks, as Rochey said - even if the Gorn honor age and experience more than the modern Western world does, he'd probably be "honored" with a desk job or a consultative capacity.

You're both right about that. What was I thinking? A blind man leading a war party on a starship? I'm going to go get some coffee.
