Planet of the Apes.

The twist is kind of ruined by them depicting it on the cover of the video/dvd, but its still a great ending.

And I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet but The Manchurian Candidate (the original not the remake) has a nice twist midway through.

Its also my my favourite film ever.

My first encounter with Great Expectations was the David Lean film when I was a kid. Possibly my first encounter with a twist. Frailty caught me completely by surprise; I thought it was a psychological thriller and the sudden twist into American Gothic horror was entirely unexpected.
