Review : From start to finish, "Timescape" I have always considered this episode to be a classic example of The Next Generation's ability to create a balanced episode: We get an interesting plot, some high tech science (without going into technobabble), the threat of confrontation with the baddie Romulans (who actually weren't bad in this case), and ultimately a scientific and peaceful solution to a problem. Beyond the actual plot, there is a lot of personality to this episode. The opening dialogue aboard the runabout is enjoyable and is a great bit of "family time" between members of the crew, as is Riker in sickbay. The teapot bit at the end has always been one of my favorite "Data being Data" moments, and despite its silliness, Picard and the Smiley Warp Breach was always funnny. It doesn't measure up to some of the truly flawless bits of Season 6 production, "Timescape" proves to be a pretty balanced episode, well thought out, and without any major flaws.

Review : This was a decidedly weird situation, but resolved without too much trouble. Anything to do with temporal anomalies requires us to lower our disbelief threshold to some extent. Still, sometimes it goes a bit too far. For instance, when Picard, Data, Troi and Geordi were enclosed in forcefields, how could they breathe? They should have worn spacesuits, or at least carried air tanks. The way that we were led to believe that the Romulans were trying to destroy the ship, then it turned out that they weren't and it was all a misunderstanding seemed a bit odd as well. Anyway, there were some decent bits to it. Firstly, the fact that we saw the aft compartment of a Runabout. I want one of those things as a yacht! I also had a lot of fun spotting people moving, which was probably a bit cruel of me. Some of them might have been mannequins, but most were real people standing very still, which is very hard to do.

Review : An episode involving time... why am I not surprised to see Brannon Braga credited as writer? Honestly, can he write about anything else? I can't believe he started this obsession with TNG and carried it through Voyager AND Enterprise as well! IMO it was Brannon Braga's involvement that began the decline of Trek with repetitive storylines, although bad science from Berman didn't help. Back to this episode. This is the kind of episode I like, a small number of crew saving the ship from an unusual situation. I liked the fact they can only spend a certain amount of time aboard the Enterprise and have to use the Runabout as a base of operations. It's also interesting to explore the frozen Enterprise and try to work out what was going on. Again, the atmosphere of the episode is well-crafted and it's always good to spend a quality episode with our friends from the E-D.
