Review : I really cannot knock the acting or the story, but what I do not understand is why this episode exists at all. We get brief rumors of the Orion Syndicate in one or two previous episodes, but here it is now, front and center. Now the OS is enough of a threat to Starfleet that it is willing to devote time and resources during the Dominion War to... infiltrate it? Speaking of... Why the hell is O'Brien on this case? Of all the beings in Starfleet, why the Chief of Operations of THE most important starbase in the entire quadrant? It makes the conversation among the Senior Staff on DS9 all the more surreal: How indeed does Starfleet think DS9 will get along without O'Brien? Good question, that does not even get answered. O'Brien's duties aside, he still does not seem like the best fit. He lies constantly, even about having a family! So what have we learned about O'Brien, other than he can apparently spin a web of deception? I might give this episode a higher rating if it took place in the first three seasons, when the Dominion was the rumor.
